This will be a short post, but I felt like it was significant enough to make it a post by itself.
After Christ spent some time with the Nephites, he ascended into heaven. The scriptures do record that He came and met with them often after that. This particular case was interesting to me though.
"1 And it came to pass that as the disciples of Jesus were journeying and were preaching the things which they had both heard and seen, and were baptizing in the name of Jesus, it came to pass that the disciples were gathered together and were united in mighty prayer and fasting.
2 And Jesus again showed himself unto them, for they were praying unto the Father in his name; and Jesus came and stood in the midst of them, and said unto them: What will ye that I shall give unto you?" (3 Nephi 27:1-2)
The disciples were preaching all over and baptizing people and sharing and spreading the gospel. At some point, they gathered and met together. They were fasting and praying together, united, and it was at that point that Christ visited with them.
There is something special about being united with others that share your responsibilities, gathering together and fasting and praying together. Even more significant, He asked the question "What will ye that I shall give unto you?" What would it be like for the Savior to ask me that question? How would I answer? What would I want to know?
There is power in gathering together. This is one reason why having organized religion is important. It's not so that you have someone telling you what to do or thing. It is huge to have others there to support you and for you to support them as well. "For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them."
