The Book of Mormon teaches that the people that Jesus taught were converted and all of them were righteous and they were all united.
"And it came to pass that there was no contention in the land, because of the love of God which did dwell in the hearts of the people." (4 Nephi 1:15)
They had love for one another and so there was no contentions. For 200 years, the people lived in unity and love, with no contention. The people were righteous and so:
"There were no robbers, nor murderers, neither were there Lamanites, nor any manner of -ites; but they were in one, the children of Christ, and heirs to the kingdom of God." (4 Nephi 1:17)
This reminded me of a conference talk I just listened to from April 2018 by Elder Brian K. Taylor called "Am I a Child of God?". He quotes Boyd K. Packer who said “You are a child of God. He is the father of your spirit. Spiritually you are of noble birth, the offspring of the King of Heaven. Fix that truth in your mind and hold to it. However many generations in your mortal ancestry, no matter what race or people you represent, the pedigree of your spirit can be written on a single line. You are a child of God!”
I like that because basically, it is so easy to be divided, especially in today's world. It's almost like people are looking for ways to be divided against each other rather than working together and being united. I think it's an important lesson that when we are united, working together, we can and will be blessed and prosper, just like the Nephites.
