Important Messages for All

Christ wanted to make sure the Nephites had access to some revelation that was given to the people in Jerusalem after the Nephites left. Specifically here, He gave them some parts of the prophesies of Malachi, who taught in Jerusalem a couple hundred years after Lehi took his family and left as recorded in the Book of Mormon. This is on the heels of just having reminded His 12 disciples to make sure they keep a good record.

"And it came to pass that he commanded them that they should write the words which the Father had given unto Malachi, which he should tell unto them. And it came to pass that after they were written he expounded them." (3 Nephi 24:1)

What I love here, is He gave them the words spoken by Malachi, but he also "expounded them". I think this means that he gave them the words, but He also explained them.

The scriptures don't have to be confusing. God knows everything, especially His word as recorded in the scriptures. If we don't understand something, He will be glad to help us understand better. If we ask, we will receive.

Part of the message of Malachi that Christ wanted them to be aware of is the commandment to pay tithing, along with some of the explanation of why, but also an explanation of the wonderful blessings that come to those who pay their tithing.

I appreciate that Jesus wanted the Nephites to have this message as well, but I think even though it's just a couple of words, I'm glad to know He took the time to explain and expound on what he had just taught them. It gives me confidence that he will do the same for me.
